Take Nothing for Granted

That was the  message today as I spoke with Jim Killoran, the Executive
Director of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester. Killoran is back from a
trip to Haiti where he experienced, first hand, the devastation in the
country following the massive earthquake.

It's nearly one month ago that the quake struck and Westchester's
Habitat is coming up with a challenge that it's calling 100 Homes for
Haiti Now. It's calling on local schools, businesses, and organizations
to sponsor a challenge to raise 3500 dollars, enough to build one home
for a family in Haiti. For individuals who seek to do something, he
suggested another challenge.  He's encouraging people to take part in a
"No Lunch for Haiti" program, whereby individuals can take the money
typically used  for lunch, for a single month, put it aside, and make a
donation to help a family build a new home in Haiti

Killoran sees the challenge of helping to rebuild Haiti as a spiritual
one. He says "We've left, what I call, the decade of greed. Now we need
to come to the decade of service. from Peekskill and Croton to Yonkers
and Somers and Haiti and back."
