Yonkers Police have arrested a man after he allegedly drove impaired by either drugs or alcohol, struck a child, and kept on going. The incident happened around 9:45 Thursday night near Main Street and Riverdale Avenue.
Witnesses told police they saw a 2005 Chevy van strike the boy and then drive away at a high rate of speed. Responding officers later found the suspect, who had been stopped by several of the eyewitnesses.
Police say the suspect appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. Under arrest is 34 year old Onecimo Flores of 276 Riverdale Avenue in the Bronx. He has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury, Operation of a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The boy, an 8 year old from the Bronx, who has not been identified, was riding a bicycle at the time he was struck. He suffered a fractured pelvis and clavicle bone and was treated at a local hospital.
